Procedure
Screening mammography is appropriate for asymptomatic women who have no breast symptoms.
During the exam, the breast is compressed for a few seconds, to spread the tissues apart and include as much of the breast in the scan as possible. An average of 2 views of each breast is obtained.
Screening mammography is the gold standard for the early diagnosis of non-palpable breast cancer. Most women will have a normal exam, and be returned for an annual follow-up.
At the Breast Imaging Center, each Screening Mammography examination is double read, by two different radiologists. You will receive a written report in clear lay language within 2 to 5 working days.
The Breast Imaging Center is an accredited mammography facility.
