- RADIOLOGIC CLINICS 0F NORTH AMERICA; 38:625 - 651
THE SWEDISH TWO-COUNTY TRIAL TWENTY YEARS LATER LASZLO TABAR, MD ET AL.
High quality mammography continues to produce beneficial effects of a 32% reduction in breast cancer mortality. Of particular note is the continued excellent survival of small tumors (1 - 9 mm) regardless of their historical grade. Within this group, however, is a subset of small tumors containing branching calcifications that have a higher risk of fatality. This group when identified can be considered for more radical therapy. Conversely, the excellent survival of small cancers without calcifications indicates that this group is unlikely to derive any additional benefit from radical or adjuvant therapy.
